while i am on the subject...

well, i usually use this blog for frivolousness. but, maybe i shouldn't? so, since i have started on the subject of surgery, maybe i should continue. i thought i should mention that my gramps had a knee replacement surgery and month or so back and my mom had a hip replacement recently. it would be great if you could pray for a speedy recovery. my gramps isn't doing too bad. he is getting around with a cane and they even let him drive now. my mom is pale and tired and weak and dad is driving her nuts.:) at least she has dad to take care of her. we have been visiting her this week, but when i have my surgery it might get very lonely for her. maybe she should take up knitting!

impending surgery for andy?

dear reader, in man vs. birtbike, dirtbike wins. andy was riding with his dad on saturday. andy went off a jump and when he landed a little sideways he stuck his leg out to steady himself. poor andy's ankle. dan took andy to the emergency room. they thought it was just a sprain. on monday i took him to the dr. and learned that he has a small fracture. there is a little bone chip floating in his ankle joint. he is wearing a very stylish boot and he's on crutches. he'll probably have surgery next week some time. he's not in very much pain anymore. that's a good thing. please pray for andy and his big gross swollen ankle.:)

surgery for me, tra-la, tra-la!

dear readers, the body is a frail thing. our life is but a vapour. :) i am having knee surgery tomorrow. i seem to have misplaced my ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT. i had it a few years ago...... my doctor is pretty sure my body absorbed it. so, tomorrow at 8 am i am having a new one put in. i won't even be staying overnight this time (this time? yes, this is my third surgery of this kind.). i will recupperate for an hour then i will go home! the last time i stayed in the hospital 2 nights. it will be really fun at my house for a while. my step-son and i on crutches, my husband schlepping drinks/phones/ice packs, and a whiney angel of a toddler.:) please pray for me and my family.

current knitting accomplishments

haven't blogged about my knitting in a while. well, it's going steady.:) after about the 12th hat i started experimenting with stripes. i think i have done 14 hats altogether. this hat i wasn't quite sure about how the camo would look... it turned out very nice i thought. it was a gift to a cousin's baby.

after i conquered stripes:), i thought i would tackle booties. SO EASY. SO FAST! i have totally finished one pink bootie (shown) and just have to stitch together it's mate, and a pair of yellow booties. these tiny knit shoes are just achingly adorable.

tax refund, how i love thee

last night my husband bought doors/sundries/trail mix and i bought yarn and flower/veggie seeds. today i bought household supplies/cute clothes/groceries(guava juice!)/COFFEE! i love getting a tax return. love it. i know it is not free money that magically appreared. i know that in actuality it was extra money we loaned to the government throughout the year... but it feels like free money. woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He arose!

today i am not feeling so well. again. sigh. and yet... tomorrow is Easter! i'm not going to drop the proverbial holiday ball. i have already completed the green bean casserole (french cut canned beans are my fave. feel free to argue.). i also assembled my newest sensation, the venison sausage bread pudding (think egg bake with a whole lot of homemade bread cubes). remember, the secrets to my venison sausage bread pudding are: 1. let the melted butter soak into the bread cubes first. 2. pour 1/2 block of melted cream cheese over the whole thing. wow.

the homemade caramel rolls are in the oven rising. which brings me to the really important thing about Easter. "up from the grave He arose! with a mighty triumph o'er His foes!". Jesus willingly went to the cross to pay the penalty for the world's collective, and personal, sin. all we have to do to receive Christ's salvation is to put our faith completely in Him and repent of our sins (as the one thief next to Him on the cross did.). it's so easy and free. "He arose! He arose! Halleluah Christ arose!" i'll be thinking about that that as i enjoy my caramel rolls.

"i want dada, too."

yesterday i went and got jack out of his crib. we went into the living room with his blankie ("blank") and fox (fa) to snuggle on the couch. jack says to me, "i want dada, too.".

hooray for food thermometers

i made bread from scratch again yesterday. thanks to my new food thermometer, maybe?, i got the liquid up to the right temperature and did not kill my yeast. the bread is truly a triumph. how do i know? dan helped himself to a second piece last night without me even asking him if he wanted one.:) ha ha! well, even if i had failed i would not really have failed. botched bread makes fabulous bread pudding!!!!!!!! tee hee.

my snow baby

the other day, after a quick trip for groceries and an unplanned stop at papa bwak's house, jack and i decided to take an impromptu tromp through the snow before lunch and nap. isn't he a dashing little figure?

itsy bitsy's last days

just got an e-mail from the owner of the baby boutique in downtown brainerd, "itsy bitsy". she says her last day is april 4th. make sure to hurry in for some great deals. once when she had a clearance i got french sailor suits for $3.30 and a great photo frame for a photo of jack and i for about $1.70. hurry hurry!!

april fool's snow

the snow is still gently falling today. this is not an april fool's joke. the trees are heavy with the wet snow. when i got up this morn i looked out my windows and thought it was so beautiful that i should take some photos. the first photo is the view from my living room of the walk-out basement side of the house. the second photo is taken from the window in our breakfast nook.
